About us

Chalipa the Centre of Art and Culture was established in 2019 by Farhad Vatandoost and Laleh Rasaee in Toronto, Canada. Since 2011, this center has been the only official representative of the Association of Persian Calligraphers in North America in the city of Toronto. The purpose of establishing Chalipa is to develop the first professional center for Persian calligraphy and book-making arts (Tazhib)

Calligraphy and Tazhib lessons in this center are performed with the presence of experienced and professional instructors with the most unique methodology by taking into different age levels, nationalities, and capabilities. Our students by relying on their abilities, concentration, and interest stay with us from the first stages of learning calligraphy step by step. During this time, we not only see their significant improvement, but they also enjoy the practice of mindfulness.

Every year, Chalipa tries to introduce Persian calligraphy and orient its fundamental knowledge at different levels by holding various workshops in museums, festivals, and other educational centers.

The purpose of opening this center is to preserve and maintain the uniqueness of Persian calligraphy and its essential role in the Iranian community, and families and strengthen its relationship with the second and third generations of Iranian immigrant families and propose them with their motherland’s culture, art, and literature. We also try to introduce and show the beauty of this art along with the rich Persian literature to other nations.
